In spite of the fact that Pod isn't nearly done with the lands around Cothromach, she knows that time is of the essence, and the animals around Caer Glaem know her personally. She couldn't bear if one of the wolves who'd begged her for help couldn't find her again in their time of need. So she uses the fairy rings to get back to the area around Caer Glaem.
It doesn't take long to find the rotted area closest to the fairy ring, and Pod starts there, combing through the area around it and Healing what animals she finds. Little birds, feathers falling out, and squirrels and chipmunks with hair and skin sloughing off. Some she cannot Heal, and she gently helps them pass with the Sleep. Each time hurts. She wasn't quick enough, or the Jabberwock's terrible aura was just too strong. She knows she can't do everything, but right now the guilt is strong.
So Pod pushes herself harder, Healing until she simply can't call up the magic for the exhaustion sinking into her bones, and well into the night. She staggers away, finding a meadow likely for camping, and then can't manage to do more than get her pack off.
She'll just rest for a moment, she tells herself, tells Kiga, and leans against her pack. The exhaustion takes her and she falls asleep in the center of the meadow, sprawled over her pack, and Kiga worrying and whining as he paces around her.
Morning finds her like that, shivering in the cold, with Kiga cuddled close to keep her warmer.
